/re/PURPOSE PERFORMANCE HOW IT WORKS
Recycling Non-BPA Water Bottles
Non-BPA water bottles are collected and sorted by colour for recycling, ensuring that the resulting fibres are non-toxic and safe. The bottles are then stripped of their labels and caps before processing begins. Thousands of bottles are subsequently washed, crushed, and sliced into flakes, which are then heated and shaped into pellets ready for reuse in manufacturing new products.
The environmental impact of plastic waste across the world cannot be debated and we are thrilled our /re/PURPOSE PERFORMANCE helps to provide one small part of the solution for that waste.
Each rug is made of 100% recycled water bottles – even down to the warp. Of course, this attention to detail is carried through to our packaging where we also use recycled plastic bags to ship these pieces.
Preparing Fibres for Rug Threads
Pellets are melted and extruded to make fibre. The material is then crimped, cut, drawn, and stretched before being baled. The baled fibre can then be processed further into threads that are suited for rug weaving.
Two-Step Proprietary Process
Fibres are then dyed to match the required colour. To create a fibre that mimics the look and feel of wool, a two-step process is used that alters the fibre during both the dyeing phase and the final wash. Because plastic is impermeable, the /re/PURPOSE PERFORMANCE fibres are dyed at 150°C, at which point the resin changes, taking on colour and softening as a result of this unique process.
High-Performance Fibres
Finally, the fibres are ready for weaving. Only permanent construction techniques are used, including hand-knotted and handwoven methods, ensuring the rugs are built to last for generations. These rugs are soft and luxurious while also being strong enough for commercial use. Due to the impermeability of plastic, liquid stains remain on the surface of the fibre rather than soaking in and causing permanent damage. As a result, /re/PURPOSE PERFORMANCE fibres are transformed into high-quality, hand-knotted and handwoven rugs that are durable enough for the demands of everyday life and ideal for homes with pets.

Designed for Everyday Living
One of our first /re/ PURPOSE PERFORMANCE clients asked for a “bulletproof” rug for her children’s home library. Just three days after installation, she called in a panic after paint was spilled across it. She was simply advised to rinse it with warm water and it came out perfectly. She was delighted (as were we).
These rugs are naturally impervious, so spills and stains don’t penetrate the fibre. If a mark has been left for a longer period and doesn’t lift with warm water, it can be treated with diluted bleach. This makes it a perfect choice for high traffic or busy households as well as hotels, offices and other commercial spaces. All of this without losing their look or feel of luxury.
"I cannot imagine a project where I wouldn't use a Jennifer Manners rug."—Natasha Greig, Director of Veere Grenney Associates
