Inside the Creation of Our Largest Rug Yet: Antibes for Katie Lydon Interiors

When this project first came to life, the vision was clear: to create something extraordinary. A rug that would not simply inhabit a space, but transform the way it was experienced. A piece that would challenge perceptions of scale, craftsmanship and the possibilities of what a handcrafted rug can become.

The result marks a landmark moment for Jennifer Manners: one of the longest single-piece rugs of its kind, crafted entirely by hand using innovative recycled materials.

Taken on a journey to Connecticut, this remarkable Antibes from our Provence collection now takes pride of place within a private residence designed by the celebrated team at Katie Lydon Interiors. Measuring an incredible 8 feet by 131 feet, the rug follows the graceful curve of the home’s elongated hallway, creating a continuous passage of colour and texture from one end of the space to the other.

But this story is about far more than scale. The true magic lies in the journey behind its creation.

With vibrant accents balanced by a natural sisal-like warmth, our Antibes rug was handcrafted using our /re/PURPOSE PERFORMANCE technology, a pioneering fibre made from recycled materials. This Antibes was created using yarn made from 99,749 recycled water bottles. Soft, tactile and beautifully refined, it demonstrates how thoughtful innovation can expand the possibilities of contemporary interiors.

Behind the finished piece lies months of meticulous craftsmanship. Across our artisan workshops in India, skilled makers brought the design to life through a process guided by patience, precision and expertise. The yarn was carefully dyed, the loom prepared, and every section hand-woven before the final finishing touches were completed.

At this extraordinary scale, every detail matters. A single imperfection could mean starting again. The finished rug was then expertly cut to its bespoke template, following the sweeping architectural curve of the hallway before embarking on its journey across the Atlantic to its new home.

More than a feat of craftsmanship, this Antibes reflects our ongoing exploration of the possibilities of the rug as an art form. It is a celebration of design, innovation and the enduring skill of artisan makers, proving that even the most ambitious ideas can be brought to life through considered craftsmanship.
