/re/PURPOSE

Recycling non-BPA water bottles...

Non-BPA water bottles are collected and carefully sorted by colour, creating the foundation for a considered recycling process. The bottles are stripped of their labels and caps before being washed, crushed and sliced into flakes. These flakes are then heated and formed into pellets, ready to be transformed into new fibres and given a new purpose in manufacturing.

The environmental impact of synthetic materials across the world cannot be debated, and we are thrilled that our /re/PURPOSE technology helps to provide one small part of the solution.

/re/PURPOSE

Preparing fibres for rug threads...

Each rug is crafted entirely from recycled water bottles, including the warp, with the same considered approach extending to every detail. Even our packaging reflects this commitment, with recycled bags used to protect and ship each piece.

The recycled pellets are melted and extruded to create fibre, which is then crimped, cut, drawn and stretched before being formed into bales. The fibre is subsequently spun into threads specially suited to rug weaving, ready to become part of the finished design.

/re/PURPOSE

Two-step proprietary process...

The fibres are then dyed to achieve the desired colour. To create a fibre that captures the character and tactile quality of wool, a carefully developed two-stage process transforms the material during both dyeing and the final wash.

Because the material is impermeable, /re/PURPOSE fibres are dyed at 150°C. At this temperature, the resin changes, allowing it to absorb colour while softening the fibre. This considered process gives the finished fibre its distinctive wool-like look and feel.

Finally, the fibres are ready for weaving. We use only permanent construction techniques, including hand-knotted and handwoven methods, creating rugs designed to last for generations. The result is a collection that combines softness and luxury with the strength required for commercial environments and everyday living.

The impermeable nature of the fibre also offers practical benefits. Liquid stains remain on the surface rather than being absorbed, making the rugs easier to live with and maintain. The finished pieces bring together considered craftsmanship, durability and a refined tactile quality, making them equally suited to contemporary homes, busy spaces and life with pets.

/re/PURPOSE

Designed for everyday living...

One of our first /re/PURPOSE clients asked for a “bulletproof” rug for her children’s home library. Just three days after installation, she called in a panic after paint was spilled across the rug. We simply advised her to rinse it with warm water, and the mark came away perfectly. She was delighted, and so were we.

The fibres are naturally impervious, meaning spills and stains remain on the surface rather than penetrating the material. For marks that have remained for longer, a diluted bleach solution can be used where appropriate. This exceptional resilience makes these rugs particularly well suited to high-traffic spaces and busy households, including homes with children and pets, as well as hotels, offices and other commercial environments, without compromising their luxurious look or feel.
