Craftsmanship and story

Made with intention

For us, sustainability is about making thoughtful choices today that respect tomorrow. It is woven into how we design, make and work, and is reflected in our certification as a B Corp. From the materials we choose to the people who craft our rugs, we are always looking for ways to tread more lightly while creating pieces made to last for generations.

Considered production
We choose natural and more sustainable materials wherever possible and continually explore better, more energy-efficient ways of making.

Made to last
Our rugs are designed for longevity, not disposability. We primarily make to order, reducing unnecessary stock, waste and use of resources.

People & craft
Sustainability is about people, too. We support the skilled craftspeople who make our rugs through fair wages, safe working conditions and investment in their families and communities.

We believe in making beautiful things thoughtfully, valuing the people behind them and creating for the generations to come.

Supporting education

We work closely with our weavers to ensure their children have access to a high standard of education through our dedicated schools scheme. We believe education is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting change within developing communities. Our support covers private-school tuition, textbooks, transportation and uniforms, helping remove the practical barriers that can prevent children from attending school. Following the 2015 earthquake, we have also contributed to the rebuilding of schools, helping strengthen educational opportunities for families within the communities where our weavers live and work.

Weaving in Bhadohi

Bhadohi is regarded as the heart of India’s rug-weaving tradition, where generations of artisans have shaped a craft rooted in centuries of Indian handcraft and artistry. Many of our weavers continue to live and work within the communities where they were raised. Alongside local residents, we support a community fund providing access to education and healthcare, with a particular focus on young women and girls. We also sponsor vocational courses, while keeping every stage of production under one roof wherever possible, supporting secure employment and exceptional craftsmanship.

Weaving in Kathmandu

In Nepal, rug production is an important part of the country’s economy, supporting livelihoods and social progress, particularly in rural communities. We work with over 600 craftspeople across hand-dyeing, weaving and finishing, with skills often passed down through generations. No child labour is used in the production of our rugs, with standards monitored internally and by organisations including GoodWeave. We also support greater accountability across the industry, working with local partners to identify and report improper practices, particularly in remote regions.

the making process

Production

The making of a quality handmade rug remains rooted in centuries-old techniques. Across cultures, distinctive approaches to weaving and knotting have evolved, from flatwoven and handloom to hand-knotted construction. Yet it is the individual weaver’s experience, skill and intuition that gives each rug its character.

Fibres

We make each rug to order by hand using time-honoured methods and hold limited stock. This approach supports efficient production, using only the materials and energy needed. We use recycled packaging, recycle water from dyeing and washing, and continually refine our processes with transparency.

Made with intention

Our rugs are crafted in Kathmandu, Nepal and Bhadohi, India, where generations of weaving knowledge shape every piece. From London, we make frequent visits to our weaving partners, building lasting relationships and learning from the skilled artisans whose expertise brings our designs to life.
